That's what happened to Slashdot, for me at least. I was there before you had to have an account, and could just pick any user name. When they finally started requiring logins I wanted until I had something to say and got one. Two digits.

Comments went from being conversations with a regular set of posters to digg style fire and forget comments.

I think when it gets too big you do start to lose the community feeling.

I just found out about 4chan last night. I posted a comment in bN that got picked up and posted there. It was strange and completely out of context.

When I visited the site to see what it was, all I saw was a bunch of anime avatars and porn - plus the comments that made no sense to me (but I was taking them out of context, so...). I'm still not entirely sure what 4chan is, but it didn't look like something I'd be interested in. I'm sure someone likes it though, so meh. It takes all kinds to make the world work.

Forced curves mean it's a reflection of how much black letter law you can memorize at once and vomit into a blue book in less than 30 minutes....which, coming full circle, leads to a bunch of morons in your class out there practicing law who don't know how to apply it to real-life situations.

Law school just annoyed me. I love the law and have always wanted to be a lawyer too. Man, the politics of it really got under my skin though. Why force Cs on people just "because/" (for the record, have a solid B+ average, and no, it's not fair)

Yea thats i guess why i haven't. that and its tough to leave a decent paying job for something I'm not certain i want to do. I didn't go right after college because it was something i was only about 10% interested in and I in no way had the money to waste.

PoMo is the term a lot of positivist anthropologists use when referring to colleagues while gossiping, I mean while in backroom discussions. PoMos are the types that go to exotic locales to study themselves and write travelogues, because you can never really understand another culture. "Real" scientists study other cultures, collect interview text and other numerical data, analyze it, and try to draw some conclusions about the culture they studied. It is fascinating to see these two groups have a shouting match, I mean discussion. :-)

Actually, PoMo anthropologists do make some really good points that all anthropologists would be wise to acknowledge and work with in their research. We all have biases and we should be more transparent about it. Plus, there are many things I will never understand about the communities I work with because I didn't grow up as a member - again, I need to acknowledge this in my research.
