faethe: I kinda get that you like crazy wimmin. It's not like you can stop at just one...however, does it concern you that eventually one of them may sneak up on you? You know, after a while the bean in their head just kinda points to wherever it is you sleep...

I hate crazy wimmin unless they are a LOT smaller than me...

It's not that I like crazy women, I just seem to get them. Maybe, subconciously, I don't want to ruin any more 'good' women, so I go for the trainwrecks. Yes, I have meditated upon this, wondering why I don't have a normal life.

No one can sneak up on me. I have 3 dogs, widely spaced, and they alert on anything moving in the woods or road. And unless someone knows the proper commands (and speaks Russian), they won't stop. I'm a very light sleeper, and the only way that a bear got close enough to sniff of my head is because it was a black bear, and they are like very large cats.

The other people that tried to stab me weren't women, nor were the people that shot at me. Both times the bullets hit me, they were both in the legs (that was in a 'past life' as we say) but I got away with just some scars. I also still have a bullet hole in the windshield of one of my trucks to remind me of things.

I'm not angry, just frustrated. Because alexandra is just the tip of the iceberg. You would not believe how many female (and male) undergrads I've met at UGA who were strident anti-feminists while spouting mainstream feminist thought. If more people worked for gender-blind equality, the agenda would move faster.

It's hard because the language is constantly being defined by the opposition. For example, Equal marriage rights are what the gay community would like to see. When it's positioned as 'gay marriage" there are a ton of perception problems.

I would love to see the terms "Equalist" used. I think it's a sensible way to express the idea that men and women should be equal under the law while understanding that there are differences between men and women, just as there are differences between some people and other people. Those differences just have no business being manifest into law.

BTW the logic follows that if the price of the iphone drops, the ipod touch will drop also - but that's just speculation. A new slim mac book? Nice. Still won't be able to play games with it but at least it will be more like a sony vaio :p

Because you like crazy wimmin. I do believe it is genetic. And believe me - they are easy to spot. I hd a roomate who loved crazy wimmin. I went out bowling with my friend (who is now my husband) and he had a friend who was a crazy CRAZY woman. It gets to the point where you can just tell by the posture. Anyway, I told him that if he ever introduced her to my roomate I would never speak to him again. One restraining order too many. I do not walk that road again...

And Black Bears aren't all that bad, but then again, they are really small down here. I know up by you they eat nuclear waste and are 600lbs, but down here they are the size of the dog and don't hibernate at all.

This is how conservatives win fights- they change the perception of the public about issues by shaping the language that is used. "Partial-birth abortion," "death tax," and so on. Words have power, and they have even more power over relatively unintelligent people. Most American voters are not that bright- conservative voters especially. That's really true. I am reading more about the 'Blank Slate' (Stephen Pinker). Figures largely into whatour current philosophy is, why certain policies are. Annoying because a lot of it was drilled into me in college without my understanding the philosophy behind it. Has to do with there is no such thing as individuality, that all there is is culture, and that culture is 'autonomous', as in it exists outside people. Culture is an external force that shapes everything and everyone, etc. I never really thought of it before, but if that is the case, there is no such thing as individuality because individuals can be explained in terms of culture.

It's like a reaction to social darwinism - race, etc. and other constructs do not exist because culture shapes those things. Social darwinism is the extreme end of the scale. Now we are finding out that things like heredity and biology can shape your identity, but they are also things that are often highly specialized, regardless of what the drug companies want you to think...

Man, I hate pictures of attractive women so much. God damn, I'd vote it down, but that would acknowledge its existence.

yosofine: Then who'd clean up your shit? I've sadly noticed that a percentage of people who claim a high IQ don't want to deal with the physical side of life that requires manual labor and chores. *Yes, I know there are exceptions.* If you eliminate those who do non-collegiate jobs, no one will be left to be your garbage person, your sewer maintenance person, your parks department person, the person who mops your floors, empties your trash and cleans your bathroom at work, the water department workers, the grocery store stockers, the fast food workers, the highway builders, etc. I could go on. I'm not puting these jobs down, I've worked a few of them myself. I'm just saying that there's a place and a niche for each of us no matter how educated or uneducated or high IQ we are. How well would your world work without the stability of society?

They would either do it themselves, or perish.

I haul my own garbage, do my own gardening, clean up my dogs shit, hell I even built my own road, cleared my land, serviced my equipment, put in my electric from the main line, etc. etc.

Can I come live with you? I promise, I won't try to convert you. I want to move to the middle of nowhere and build my own house.

Seconded. Once the kids move out and we get right side of this mortgage, I'd like to flip this house and move about 30 minutes from where we're at at the moment. Close enough to civilization to be tenable for the wife, far enough away from civilization to have a couple of small crops and some goats.

I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I live in the paradise of somewhere. Go to my flickr page for an example (tokositna).

And I'm not concerned about being 'converted', one penis is a full time job to control.

You must first be certain you can handle it. However, you would not be the first person, nor the last, that thought they could come to Alaska and live their dream, only to leave unfulfilled.

That's about 5 miles for me. I want 10 acres on a hill. I want to build my own house. It would look something like this:

This was built in Georgia. If you orient the house properly, it stays cool in summer, warm in winter.

How far is the nearest Target?

I couldn't do the solitary life in the cold. I like NC weather.

Yanno, I like the way you think. Our house as it is is oriented to where there are no windows facing east/west. This is a fantastic thing during the summer, which in Texas can be fairly ugly.

I'm not even concerned about hills, since I'm a native Texan and hills are somewhat foreign to me. I just want something where I don't have an HOA, don't have to worry about doing what I want to, and can walk outside without having to see neighbors.

It's really easy to design for the environment. I'm not talking about Al Gore's environment. So many designers look at every site as a flat spot for them to put their building. They rarely take into consideration small things like windows and doors, overhangs, etc that would make a tremendous difference in the quality of life inside their buildings. And for god's sake, let people open a window every now and then.

And it's not cold here now, it's 21.4F in the shade right now. The cold snap came and went. And when I was at Ft. Bragg one time, it was pretty cold. Another time, it was smothering hot and humid.

Whatever. It's 65 in my house and I'm shivering. It's 57 here. It's been dark for two hours. Very unusual weather for us. It should be around 40 normally.

I saw something on This Old House Hour that got me intrigued: redirecting the downspouts from your rain gutters into an underground watering system for a garden. I'm thinking there's some sort of that thing I could do for my intended gardens with some artfully placed whiskey barrels and the right PVC tubing and whatnot. A couple of flow regulators and some drip irrigation tubing, and I might be in business.

I'm also going to end up covering a lot of grass with some nice rock paving, thereby reducing my water needs, and making some play areas for my daughters swingset that she's getting for Xmas.

/also has some other stuff he's going to do with installing motion detector lights to keep from having to leave the front porch light on while we're gone

It's 59 here. Starting to get dark. In a couple hours it will be 40 or less. High was 70 today - had to run the A/C in the car... Low last night was 32.5.

Then I would suggest that, if you still consider living here, do as the Snowbirds do: live here for 5 months, and fly south the rest of the year.

Yeah. I hate the cold, so I'm definitely out on the Alaska thing. But the country thing I can do. I actually need to do some shopping to prepare for gigs up north. Need a hood for my Carhartt and some gloves with thinsulate or some such liner.

Oh, and some boots that'll work for biz casual. Thinking lined eastlands or something.

bluegargoyle: I'll drink to that, babe. ;) But honestly, avowed liberal types like me won't carry any weight on that war front.

If you want to take back your side from the neocons, it will have to be you and other Christians who do it. They don't claim to speak for me anyway, and anything I say can be written off as liberal hogwash. What needs to happen is for other conservatives, other Christians, to stand up and say no- you do not speak for me. Because otherwise they do.

If you are still about - yeah, I agree. Wonder why the archbishop of Canterbury is being so vocal about things like the 'three kings' likely being a myth and such? Because that/the cult that shares those views represents a rise in Paganism, moreso than Christianity.

If you're a Pagan, be a Pagan, and may God Bless you :)

Oh and I gots me some old skool Doc Martins 18 eye lace up boots! I don't like the ones you have on because they are too shitkicker. I like mine because they are that sort of Ox Blood leather, more slender in the calf.

Of course, you are a dude :p Now I have this thing for you because you look like my brother Danny! Bah! Incest! Or rather, narcissism in the extreme :p
