Actually, I (almost - still have a book to write) have a degree in computer science. I am not afraid of neologisms, and many people use the phrase 'image macro' to refer to an image with text superimposed on it. I apologize for confusing you.

If that were the case, one would use an image macro to place the text -- on an image. Macro in that case refers to the application.
