How did the concept of honor evolve? Do you believe in it?

It evolved as humans migrated into small villages where dishonorable behavior could be tracked and shared easily.
This is also why charity breaks down more easily on a large scale. There is no personal accountability.

Old people made it up so young ones can get off their butts and go to war.
I would dare to state that our conception of honour is in some way coloured by the examples we find in Homers Iliad, Tyrtaios, Virgil the Aeneid and the mass of medieval literature that deal with knights and knightly behaviour all of whom refer to Hector as THE Knight.

There is also a bigger picture related to your statement.
Human evolution depends on honor and love as it does with other social creatures. In the biggest picture, without honor, common decency and love, humans could not survive. Thus, a long time ago people translated that to "God is Love".
It's a human instinct that behooves the human race.

Married people made up 'honor' so they don't have to fight other guys for fucking their wives.
I've been saying honor in my head so much now it's lost meaning.

And to convince other people to take bullets so they could keep their land, their title, and stay rich

As far as I'm concerned, it's just one of the eight virtues you have to deal with in Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, and is represented by Dupre the Paladin.

I was going to say something like that, people who were tired of fighting to keep the food they acquired from being stolen.

Yeah, I agree. Honor and heroism are concepts created to encourage young men to sacrifice their futures in unjust wars and young women to sacrifice their futures in unjust marriages.

And yet we always end up killing in the name of that God.
I've always thought that Christian prayer, where they sit around publicly requesting things of "God" is actually thinly disguised begging from each other without having to directly ask.

The way it goes is
She offered her honor,
He honored her offer.
Then all night long,
It was on her, off her.

I believe in honor. It's essentially Kant's categorical imperative dressed up as a societal value; the idea that there are certain things one ought always to do or not do, and that society will evaluate the individual in light of his adherence to that code. It differs from virtue in that honor is only the part of virtue which society esteems: ethically virtuous actions which are despised by society are not honorable. It differs from reputation in that it is only the part of reputation that is based on virtue: one may be admired for skill or even deviousness. So you could say it's the intersection of virtue and reputation.
Of course, it hinges on an absolute rather than a relative system of ethics. If you believe that ethics is relative to the society and that there is no higher system, then of course honor is simply reputation, and there's no need for a separate concept.
