Great, -another- one.
There's a whole group of people out there who have this notion that they need to get rid of one or more limbs, either in part or entirely. When doctors refuse to amputate the hand, foot, or limb in question (sometimes it's an eye or an ear, sometimes something else, but legs below the knee and arms below the elbow seem to be most common) they'll go and do stupid-ass things to force the doctors' hand.
I think there's even an official name for this condition.

I think that may be it, yes. Thank you; I couldn't remember the name for the life of me.

FTA: David Openshaw, 28, suffers from body integrity identity disorder (BIID), which makes victims seek amputation of healthy limbs.
muninsfire: When you pose a question that is answered in the article without at least referencing the answer given in the article, it's fairly easy to assume that you haven't bothered to -read- the article.

Did you really have to ask?
First paragraph: David Openshaw, 28, suffers from body integrity identity disorder (BIID), which makes victims seek amputation of healthy limbs.
It's not like you really had to read it. Clicking on it would be a start.

Only the first paragraph and the picture. I didn't bother reading the whole thing, because these articles make me feel a little queasy. I don't like the idea of people wanting to chop bits of themselves off for no reason.

Yep. Entirely true, for the reason I just gave.

I can handle goatse. I can handle tubgirl. I can handle lemonparty and I can handle accident scenes where people have been mashed into paste.
For some reason, I can't handle voluntary amputees.

Cutting off the limb. Fuck those people, just do what they want. Let them live with the consequences. But I don't think they should get any gov't disability, or good parking spots, or any of that shit.
Fuck, I'd cut off a leg to get good parking in Chicago.

So if I had my arm amputated below the elbow and had my lower arm grafted to the top of my head that might be acceptable?

They have a very good reason. They have a disorder where their brain's map of the body doesn't include a certain limb. That makes that limb really uncomfortable.

Entirely possible.
I did say it was a phobia of mine, which means that your rational explanation will have little effect. ;-þ
