Pretty good for a story that rips off Battle Royale almost verbatim.
But that 100% will inevitably go down.
Those are just reviewers who were flown out, boarded in a nice hotel, all expenses paid to pre-screen the film.
Those are whore reviewers.
But I hope it's a good film.

That completely demotivates me to see it. How often is Hollywood original, anyway?

I saw 21 Jump Street yesterday. It was god damn hysterical. I laughed through most of it.
pope sixtus ix: That completely demotivates me to see it. How often is Hollywood original, anyway?
Its based on a book IIRC.
Honestly almost all story lines have a few basic elements that repeat throughout all of recorded history.

Hollywood has been out of ideas for years. Have a look and judge for yourself.

Please, every time I hear that its fucking asinine. You may as well bitch that paintings have run out of ideas or music has run out of ideas.

Could it be that you're just sick of hearing it because it's true? We've been on a steady diet of remakes and rehashes for better than a decade now.
It's mostly all the same shit over and over. And most of it sucks.

What? maybe you just dont like movies? Thers TONS of cool stuff I always wanted to see on the big screen, I love the comic book adaptions and toy commercial movies(except transformers, that shit fucking blows).
Tell me right now what super original movie idea do you have that you would like to see made?

Hardly, most "comedys" now show the 4 jokes in the trailer and the movie is all crappy filler between the trailers jokes. This was snappy and well written and great delivery.

See that's where we differ then. I could take all the comic book adaptations or leave them. I do like movies, I'm just hesitant about watching whichever crapfest rolls off the Hollywood production line.
As for super original ideas, if I had any worth selling I'd be rich by now. I'm not sitting on any surefire screenplays or novels over here. But if I was, i'm sure it would be derivative of something else, just like you suggest. There is nothing new under the sun.

So I can place your opinion, were you around for the original TV showings?

We went to Act of Valor yesterday. The propaganda was strong with that one. It would have made a damn good Modern Warfare game.

See, but I love movies as an artform. A good movie has 3 things every time, Good writer, good director, and good actors. Everything else is secondary to that, including the plot. Usually I follow a few directors and see all their work, its a pretty good judge on a movies quality. Granted even the best director can shit out a turd.
I need to get a damn camera and start some work my own movie, I have one lined up, derivative plot but still pretty original and if I can get it to look like how I have it pictured in my head it will be brilliant. No details on the plot as of yet as I havent told anyone of it.
If I had been smart when I was 20 I would have went to film school.

I remember 1 episode of the TV series that I thought was cool.
It took place 60 years in the future. In the 1st scene Johnny Depp was an 80 yr old man in an elevator listening to Van Halen full blast with ear buds.

Don't remember that one, I didn't watch too many of them. Kinda of an updated Dragnet, or so bad they were funny if ya go a good one.

It was still a good movie. Jonah Hill makes it work(he is also one of the writers).

I'll probably watch... eventually... with low expectations
It'd be nice to have it turn out good.

lol at people who think the original 21 Jump Street was good and/or comedy. It wasn't either. Aside from the name, there's almost nothing to compare. The concept isn't really the same. In the tv show, the cops infiltrated high school posing as high schoolers. While the same is true for the movie, it's completely self aware, and spends most of the movie lampooning the idea that 20 somethings could ever fit in with 15 year olds.
gradivus: I saw 21 Jump Street yesterday. It was god damn hysterical. I laughed through most of it.
Ugh... really?
Why in the fuck did they make a movie about a tv show that hasn't even been on the air in 30 years?
More to the point, Why in the fuck would you want to see a movie about a tv show that hasn't been on tv in 30 years?

Because Jonah Hill is fucking hilarious and talented and the movie was funny as fuck.

See, I was a kid when the show was on TV and I remember liking it. I have never seen it since but I'm sure I would be supremely disappointed at my taste in TV if I were to see it again.
I do not understand why they can not come up with a single original idea these days...

I don't think it's the writers. It's the studio heads that chose what scripts writers have made. I bet a lot of original stuff never gets done because it's not commercial enough.

My girlfriend insists that I see this with her, so this makes me dread it a little less. I did slam through the books and they weren't completely terrible, plus I'm a nerd for special effects sometimes, and the shit that happens in the arena seems like it might be cool idiotic eye-candy if done right.
I'd just wait for it to hit the internet normally, but this year we're doing a quid-pro-quo on movies, and I'm making her see Prometheus.
