Well everything DOES require energy.
What a scumbag. Pandering to the sun and shit.
I'm a long term thinker. This is why I love Solar, so good on this. How anyone can dislike an investment that will pay off in a scant decade is beyond me.
But debt is not the way to finance this, because then it doesn't payoff. You're buying your energy from the bank instead of the oil company.

It is a good question. It's actually coal companies for electricity.
My distrust of banks is larger than my distrust of energy producers, but not by large amounts.
Shall I pass on crushing debt or a destroyed planet to my children?

well, as much as our elected officials talk out of one side of their mouth saying we need to control spending etc, they certainly aren't saying/doing anything out the other side to actually solve the problems

He gambled on solar and was anti-fossil fuel for three years. He really had no energy policy beyond "green energy"
He failed on both getting any actual energy and even more at getting any jobs out of it at tremendous cost to taxpayers. Now he is stuck and this new "all of the above" stance is supposed make up for the failed energy policy he had for years?
Idiot.

As an investor who makes multi-million dollar deals every day, I don't have the time to wait ten years for an investment to pay off. I want this quarter's earnings to go up now, and I want double digit growth per quarter indefinitely, and I want a pony!

It is not the advancing of technology that failed, but rather the way it was executed under Obama. Investing and subsidizing technology research is one thing. Investing in crony capitalism with cash to businesses (that backed your campaign too) under the guise of "green jerbs' was a complete failure.
Anyway you slice it... Obama's energy policy sucked.

The crony capitalism is wrong. The jobs produced per dollar spent is a fiasco and it was poorly executed. Combined with the reduction in permits and a fiscal policy that has harmed the value of the dollar and poof.... shitty energy policy and a huge increase in fuel prices.
Also, there will more than just Solyndra in the failure list. Fisker Karma and Chevy Volt are all Green Jerbs bullshit. Solazyme (look up that crony capitalist mess)
Just wait till Romney starts....

I assume you are complaining about Solyndra? They sure did have a bunch of cronies...they were so popular they had "cronies" in the Bush administration AND the Obama administration. Talk about reaching across the aisle.
I also wonder if the new tariff to offset years of Chinese protectionism for solar companies would have helped keep Solyndra in the black...

In a curious way, part of the genius of America has been a collective forgetfulness, a talent for somehow outdistancing problems in a headlong race toward something new. It is a form of heedlessness, perhaps, blithe and profligate, but also an exuberant forward spin that may spare people the exhausting obligations of revenge. —Lance Morrow

wasn't it established that the "pipeline" wouldn't do anything for the price of oil in the US, but really just give us some jobs during construction?
kinda like saying Bush's energy policy was to let our economy almost destroy itself, thus causing a spike in oil, a massive loss of jobs, then people stopped driving allowing the consumption to relax thus bringing the price down
that's a sweet policy

In the 70s I was fascinated with wind and solar power. I had read the Harvard Business School's report, Energy Future.
I went from a naive "Free energy" kid to a "Let's check this out" adolescent. Around me there were gas lines, Nixon's new EPA, the ecology movement, and Three Mile Island.
My first semester of college included a cross-discipline class called "Energy resources for the future."
Jus think what we could have done if we pushed on this stuff hard 30 years ago!

Amusing story about the same type of thing. I was in 5th grade and the teacher told us to come up with an invention. I came up with a solar powered sidewalk because even back then I was a lazyass. He shook my hand and congratulated me for thinking of that. It was probably the late 70s. Even then I thought why not use the sunlight since it's free and doesn't smell bad. My reasons are still essentially the same 30+ years later.

Jimmy Carter was right about our energy policy.
I am tonight setting a clear goal for the energy policy of the United States. Beginning this moment, this nation will never use more foreign oil than we did in 1977 -- never. From now on, every new addition to our demand for energy will be met from our own production and our own conservation…
I will soon submit legislation to Congress calling for the creation of this nation's first solar bank, which will help us achieve the crucial goal of 20% of our energy coming from solar power by the year 2000…
To give us energy security, I am asking for the most massive peacetime commitment of funds and resources in our nation's history to develop America's own alternative sources of fuel -- from coal, from oil shale, from plant products for gasohol, from unconventional gas, from the sun…
Sounds good - he even installed Solar panels on the WH, what a progressive!! Thank god the WH is green!!!
Oh...
Didn't happen. Carter was out after one term. Reagan brought back the good old days. He took down those stupid solar panels on the White House roof.
