I'm surprised they're using Iron Patriot.
In fact, a simple movie based on the Extremis storyline with Ghost as a protagonist would be the best. Ghost has the right M.O. and the right powers to fuck with Tony Stark.
Ghost is a paranoid, anticapitalist saboteur who seeks to destroy various political and economic institutions he views as oppressive, being most interested in those dealing with advanced technology and surveillance.
A paranoid vigilante bent on wiping out corporatocracy, He developed a brilliant processor technology that had the side effect of allowing him to become invisible or intangible. His employers screwed him over, he found out but was targetted for assasination, but with his technology he survived the bombing of his building. He immediately took revenge upon the board, butchering them all along with their contract killer, and then erased all records of his previous life. Tony Stark defeated ghost once in the comics by bankrupting himself and his company, thus leaving Ghost with no actual reason to kill him.
The extremis armor is a nanotech that is fused with Tony Stark, which essentially makes him a cyborg that can turn on and off the armor with a thought.

Sounds likes they fell into the trap of cramming too much crap into one movie.

You sum it up way better than wiki.

He's basically an insane and murderous Richard Stallman with the powers of invisibility and intangibility.

that always happens in the third movie
I don't understand why.
They could easily milk things for 6 movies, but they just can't help themselves.

I don't think a whoopsie I'm bankrupt ending would go over very well in a summer superhero blockbuster.
Then again, they do seem to be falling in the old Batman trap of too many villains, so they might as well fuck it up all the way.

I'm not saying they have to go with that ending, its just the most amusing solution Tony Stark has come up with.

So who is Iron Patriot?
I am hoping this is just some misdirection, and the movie will rock.
The Avengers is going to be a hard-ish act to follow.

xomber: Oh boy.
Well, it's Norman Osbourne in Iron Man armor, when he led the Avengers, but they weren't the Avengers, Venom was spiderman, Daken was wolverine.
but yeah, this movie, I think it's just a guy in the suit, and it might be some armor wars stuff, as in the avengers....
spoilers/
The committee isn't exactly happy with how things are handled, so I can see them trying to copy Iron Man's designs. So he fights other guys in armor, he loses, he invents the extremis armor, he kicks ass, they play an AC/DC song, he makes a smart ass quip, kisses pepper potts, role credits....fury pops up says there is another problem....thanatos is after earth, he resurects Agent Coulson who is the new big bad....

TECHNICALLY Norman Osbourne in armor he got from Stark's company and retooled for his own use. He was taking medication for his insanity.. not that it worked. He ended up in charge of the avengers and Tony Stark was on the run or something I don't know. Anyways he kind of merged the Captain America costume with Iron Man armor for PR purposes. I think he actually wanted his son Harry to wear the armor. Norman also created a cure for cancer, as solely a weapon and not to help the world.

Something about Asgard floating over a midwestern city and big ass battle.
