You nailed it, subby. Companies want to sabotage Obama more than they want to grow and expand. You're a motherfucking genius.

I don't think that was what subby was saying at all.

Obama has been given a vote of No Confidence.

The folks with money are in a bunker mentality until November 7th.

I remember when the unemployment was all the way down to like 5%, such a glorious time.... when Clinton was in office.

And people still don't want to buy much from companies as they worry about job security and rising costs. What a circle!

When things go well, the GOP controlled arm of government is responsible.

When things go badly, the Democratic controlled arm of government is responsible.

    Is that about right?

Obama isn't personally, directly responsible for this.

Years of policies of making hiring more expensive (minimum wage increases, mandatory benefits like healthcare) and firing more difficult make companies think twice about taking a chance. If they hire someone crappy, it will be tough to get rid of them, then they need to pay however many weeks of unemployment to them.

A lot of companies have also found that they can manage quite well with a reduced workforce, so they are going to continue to do so. Why would they hire more people when they know it's not necessary?

    Healthcare isn't mandatory.

I thought Obamacare was making healthcare a mandatory benefit if you were a full time employee. Meh whatever. I will never be someone else's full time employee.

And the replacement of full-timers with part-timers who get shoddy benefits offset that anyway.

Exactly. And most of them make luxuries not neccesities. Why should consumer buy these luxuries if they are not necessary? Peer pressure? Used FTW.

If I'm a 'job creator', running a business that employs people, and I start making more money, either by getting a tax break or being able to charge more, why should I use that money to hire more people? The only reason I'd hire more people is if I have greater demand so I need more employees to meet that increased demand. Greater demand comes from more people having money, not a handful of people having obscene amounts of money.

    elebrin: mandatory benefits like healthcare

There is no mandate to provide anyone with healthcare.

    Just an FYI,

canu: A lot of companies have also found that they can manage quite well with a reduced workforce, so they are going to continue to do so. Why would they hire more people when they know it's not necessary?

Because the remaining people are now doing all the work that used to be done with more people? And as soon as the economy turns around, employees will bolt those companies that took advantage of them?

But as long as they're getting short-term gain, I guess that's all that's important.

My employer seems to be trailing off on the "pile on more work" concept and we've been getting decent raises lately as well. Which makes me happy because I generally like it there.

Of course this is Obama's fault! The Greek bankruptcy? Obama's fault! The Spanish bank bailout? Obama's fault! Michelle Bachmann a flaming idiot? Obama's fault! I have to stop on the way home tonight and buy a bag of charcoal if I want to grill out? You guessed it -- Obama's fault! Everything's Obama's fault, it's obvious to the most casual inspection! You can't elect a black guy and expect the space-time continuum to remain intact. He is personally and deliberately responsible for every single crisis, disaster and catsup stain in the history of the world and he does it on purpose! He's a liberal devoted to the cause of corrupting the young, erasing Christianity from the face of the world and imposing an Islamic Caliphate for all eternity. Your wife and daughters will become his harem.

And there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Liberalism: the cause of every stubbed toe since the beginning of time.
