Communists DID take over
The genius invasion of Iraq annd Afghanistan were A-OK. The Religious extremists, A-OK. But the Tea Baggers, who actually wanted to do something conservative were what pushed him out? That's quite interesting. I mean, I agree with him that the Tea Baggers were childish and ovcrly ideological...but no more than the war mongers and the xtians IMO.

Those things pushed me away from both parties. Hard to believe now but until about 2005ish I was a supporter of the Democratic party.
There were some things I had in common with the tea partiers for a while, but once they learned how to count to potato I sort of gave up on them.

I've always have pretty much seen the Republican Party as the party of assholes, proud assholes.
My problem is the religion that gets mixed in with it. Yuckie. Doesn't seem to happen as much on the other side. What part of separation of church and state do people not get? And why is it so important to you what other people do in the privacy of their own homes?

True fact for me, my first political act was passionately lobbying my third-grade classmates to vote for Ford over Jimmy Carter in a mock election in 1975.
The school population was overwhelmingly in favor of Carter. I was a social outcast on that issue but I stuck by my guns. I knew these kids had no idea wtf they were talking about.

Doesn't concern me either. But it's certainly a red flag. I mean, it wasn't the Democrats that started calling themselves that, it was the other side, and snidely. No doubt Frank Luntz did some focus groups on it, and they're trying to turn the word "Democrat" into the same kind of epithet they turned "liberal" into.

Bush 41 was probably the worst President we've had, worse than his idiot son. Why? He manufactured the Iraq War. That didn't have to happen, Saddam could have been stopped from invading Kuwait if Bush 41's administration had warned Saddam about doing it. The Iraq War led to the US having troops in Saudi Arabia, one of the prime reasons Al Qaeda became pissed off at us.

July 25, 1990 - Saddam meets with U.S. ambassador
April Glaspie, U.S. ambassador to Iraq, is summoned to meet with Saddam. According to an Iraqi transcript, Saddam harangues her about his dispute with Kuwait over oil prices. Ambassador Glaspie tells Saddam, "The president personally wants to deepen the relationship with Iraq." She expresses concerns about the Iraqi troops on the Kuwaiti border, but reflecting the official State Department position, she says, "We don't have much to say about Arab-Arab differences, like your border differences with Kuwait. ... All we hope is you solve these matters quickly."
In the final week of July, Saddam reinforces his troops. But several Arab leaders privately assure the U.S. that Iraq will not invade Kuwait. The State Department continues to make it clear the U.S. will not intervene in the dispute.
They told Saddam that they basically couldn't care less, then once he invaded they screamed bloody murder.

And lets not forget that the fruit of Iran-Contra was that the president didn't have to do what the Congress told him to do when it came to warmaking, clearly a Congressional power.

If that were true Saddam would have communicated that info to the world with every media outlet at his disposal including interviews with 60 MINUTES.
Bush 41 probably saw Operation Desert Storm as a way to gain good political capital and also as what was strategically best for the US. Clinton never made that an issue in his campaign.
In fact, he went ahead and wholeheartedly agreed with Desert Storm. He said, "It's about the economy, stupid!"
But I don't think Bush 41's Gulf War operation was all that malicious. Bush 43 on the other hand... that was downright criminal!

Bush 43 on the other hand... that was downright criminal!
swingingjohnson: If that were true Saddam would have communicated that info to the world with every media outlet at his disposal including interviews with 60 MINUTES.Bush 41 probably saw Operation Desert Storm as a way to gain good political capital and also as what was strategically best for the US. The massacres of fleeing and surrendering Iraqi soldiers?

finnley wren: He was up to his neck in Iran-Contra, where we sold weapons to the people responsible for killing 250 marines. He lied his ass off on live television to Dan Rather about it. he pardoned everyone that might have otherwise talked about it.
Confess I liked him a lot at the time. Am rethinking my appraisal.
Up to his neck? That is certainly an understatement.

swingingjohnson: I liked Ford. He had a certain dignity that appealed to my 7 year old brain that Carter didn't have.
I believe he was the only President in history that was never elected to any national executive office.

Hey... regardless of which direction the soldiers were traveling on the highway, they did not surrender in any way. They were merely retreating. Saddam didn't surrender. The opposite.
In combat operations if the enemy is getting there ass kicked, simply retreating does not mean you get a time out.
Go ahead and google what Saddam's troops did to the Kuwaiti people while they were on their invasion campaign.

No. He was an elected Senator. He was the only US president never elected president or vice president.

The same thing done by the Libyan Army and the Syrian Army and the Albanians, no doubt. I'll bet all they had to do was white out the names and scribble in new ones on the Pentagon press releases.

OK, you're right... wiki tells us:
Ford served nearly 25 years as the Representative from Michigan's 5th congressional district, eight of them as the Republican Minority Leader.

Yeah! That's crazy!
Yet he got on the Warren Commission.
Ford was a spook!

Damn. I try to be a little tiny bit bipartisan by giving a Republican a little bit of decent credibility, but you guys make it very difficult.
I'm gonna go see if bN has a good titty thread going on now.

Bush 41 would have never won had the Dems put up some decent competition.
ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY THAT DUKAKIS WAS NOT GOOD COMPETITION!?!
Yeah, yeah I know...heh

"...the partisan equivalent of flashing a gang sign."
Well some have already used your lack of respect to just go ahead and label the right as Republicons, so you know name calling is getting us way ahead...

From the moment the Tea Party emerged on the scene, I had a premonition that I would eventually have to leave the GOP.
But... I was told the tea party started out completely separate from the Republicans. I learned it on bN.

That's fucking cold.
Accurate but ruthless. I like you.
